The Vision Financial Group Scholarship Fund for HCPSS graduating seniors has provided opportunities for young adults graduating from the Howard County Public School System, like Catherine Fischer, to focus on preparing for their future career instead of managing the pressures of paying for higher education. By easing the financial burden of college tuition, students can engage fully in their college community and studies.

The Scholarship is funded in part by the annual Our Kids Our Future Charity Golf Tournament and its generous sponsors.

Read Catherine’s story below.

This year I am a freshman at Mount St. Mary’s University studying psychology and human services. My goal for my degree is to become a youth and young adult counselor in my community. I see a huge need for support, especially post-pandemic. So far I have excelled in my classes, earning the President’s Award in Fall 2021 for my grades.

I love my campus community and I’ve been very involved in the music program on campus. This year I was a member of both the pep band and wind ensemble. Through the pep band, I was able to travel to the women’s NCAA March Madness tournament and perform. Through the wind ensemble, I have been able to explore many genres of music and get involved in my campus community.

I am also the founder and president of the new Mount St. Mary’s book club. Starting a club was a challenge, especially as a freshman, but it has afforded me many new experiences and friendships. It has been exciting to have so many new opportunities for education and leadership in my community.

Thank you so much for the scholarship you are providing. It has made a huge difference in my ability to afford my first year of college. Because of you, I am debt free for my first year!
